Who we are

Gateway Studio (formerly Gateway Studio Project) was founded in 2012, and is a not-for-profit CIC organisation, focused on designing, promoting and delivering a dance and related arts infrastructure and provision, primarily for Gateshead residents. We also work nationally with our partners, such as Phoenix Dance in Leeds, Belgrade Theatre in Coventry and have professional links internationally.

Alongside working with and mentoring local professional artists, Gateway Studio provides accredited courses for young people in school and outside of school hours.

Gateway Studio works in partnership with Gateshead Council’s Looked after Children’s department.  The programme is designed to engage and stimulate the minds of disengaged vulnerable young people in the care system and give them the opportunity to achieve a GCSE in Expressive Arts.

Gateway Studio nurtures gifted and talented students, providing them with weekly professional training and performance opportunities. Gateway Studio is the first organisation to deliver the prestigious Phoenix Dance Theatre Youth Academy outside of Leeds. This provides young people in the region with direct industry links to one of the country’s leading and longest running contemporary dance companies.

Gateway Studio provides a much needed and valued resource for the young people and the artistic community of Gateshead.  Much of our work has community cohesion and health and wellbeing at the forefront of our delivery alongside high quality art.
